Austin Richard Bowen was born July 25, 1994, in Butuan City, Philippines. He was adopted and raised by his loving mother, Lisa Edwards Bowen, and father, Kevin Bowen, living most of his life in State College, PA. Austin passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Christmas Day, 2020.
Austin was an athlete, dancer, DJ, and dog lover. He loved his sisters, cousins, his 614 and N. Allen St. families, and his friends in the Special Olympics community. Austin loved calling people. And reaching out often!
He was a challenge and a challenger, a fierce competitor for his Penn State Unified Basketball League team, the Centre County Special Olympics track and field, basketball and ice hockey teams, and his Challenger League baseball team. He competed in the Youth-Adult bowling league at Northland Bowl.
Austin was most proud of his time managing the State High Volleyball team and performing with the State High marching band percussion drum line. He was a proud member of the PSU Pep Band.
His sense of humor and infectious laugh were great assets. He worked hard and missed interacting with his co-workers and friends at Foxdale Village due to Covid restrictions.
Austin was predeceased by his mother, Lisa Edwards Bowen. He is survived by his father, Kevin Bowen. Lisa called Austin home on Christmas Day to enjoy a slice of Grandma Jo’s pumpkin pie, along with Pop Pop Bowen and favorite dog Pudge.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the professionals on Austin’s team for their leadership and guidance, especially Jenny Yost Lee. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The ARC of Centre County, 171 Technology Drive Suite 400, Boalsburg, PA 16827. Donations can be made online at taocc.org.
