Dorothy passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary (Saksa) Straka and her beloved husband George Luciano. She is survived by siblings Barbara (Straka) Peterson, John Straka, and Michael Straka; sister-in-law Judy (Luciano) Tedesco; children Tina Kephart (Luciano) and Michelle Meyers (Luciano); grandchildren Avery Luciano, Timothy Gardner Jr, Matthew Gardner, and Mariah Gardner, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Morrisdale, PA, Dorothy later moved to Osceola Mills (Morgan Run) PA, after marrying George in 1962. Before dedicating herself to homemaking and motherhood, she worked at the General Cigar Factory in Philipsburg, PA. Dorothy lived her life in devotion to God, her family, and her garden. Known for her strength, kindness, and willingness to help others in any circumstance, Dorothy’s home was always filled with the warmth of a delicious, home-cooked meal. She was an avid reader of mystery novels, enjoyed the music of Elvis and ABBA, and held a love for every shade of blue. Dorothy found joy in crafting and spending time outdoors. She was a quiet pillar of her family and will be missed beyond measure.
In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a remembrance donation to any of the following: Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), St Mathew Catholic Church (1105 Cameron Ave, Tyrone,16686), Family Hospice (20 Sheraton Dr, Altoona, 16601), or a donation to your local church.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Home Instead, (especially Camryn); the staff at Colonial Courtyard (especially Thomas, Patty, Cindy, Renee, and Dawn); the staff at Tyrone and Altoona hospitals; and the team at Family Hospice (especially Kari) for their compassionate care and support.
"...She'd say I love to watch the seeds I've planted, Grow up into what they oughta be, Oh, I thought she was talking about tomatoes, She was talking about her family...Grandma's love is what gave Grandma's garden growth..."
