Irene Margaret (Layport) Bedekovich, 57, Altoona, passed away Wednesday after a protracted battle with leukemia.
She was born in Lorraine, Ohio, daughter of Donald Layport and Claudia Rohirsch. On Oct. 26, 1996, she married James Bedekovich in Levittown.
Surviving are her husband; three children: Rikki, David and Christopher; three grandchildren: Christin, Christopher and Timothy; her mother, Claudia; two brothers: Tim Layport and Don Layport; several nieces and nephews; a son-in-law, Russell; a daughter-in-law, Tammy; and two step-grandchildren: Cody and Autumn.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald; and two brothers: Allen and William Layport.
Irene grew up in the Levittown area, coming from a large family with four brothers. She attended Pennsbury High School.
She and her husband relocated to Janesville, where Irene pursued her passion for art by choosing it as her major when she attended college at Penn State Altoona. She also had a secret love of horror movies and romance novels.
When diagnosed with leukemia in 2014, Irene became dedicated to fighting her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman even throughout her final days.
Irene requested to be cremated. There will be no funeral service.
