Clearfield - Richard (Dick) Lee Leigey, Sr., 69, of Clearfield, died peacefully in the comfort of his home with family on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 with a smile on his face. Born April 8, 1951 in LeContes Mills, PA son of Elwood E. and Delores Jean Leigey. He was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings Linda and Jeff, as well as his daughter Michelle.
He is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years, Sherrill L (Martin) Leigey; two children, Richard (Rick) Leigey, Jr. and wife Denette of Chambersburg, PA and daughter Heather Leigey of Clearfield, PA and six grandchildren; Lauren, Erika, Gabriella,
Natalee, Levi and Jacob. Surviving siblings include his sisters; Mary Luzier and Irene (Renie) Forrest and his brother Elwood Leigey.
Dick was a graduate of Clearfield Area High School, Class of 1969. He was a Local #12 Union Sheet Metal Worker that proudly completed 30 years of dedicated service that entailed building and improving various schools, hospitals, prisons and power plants throughout Pennsylvania. He was a hardworking humble craftsman.
Dick took great pride in his skills and the quality of his work. He was a Do It Yourself type guy that his extended family often looked to for help, support and guidance when it came to home repairs and improvements. To those in his circle of trust, he displayed a humble and witty type sense of humor. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and always joked with his son and said, “If I can’t do it, don’t call the Hall because there isn’t anyone there that can either.”
As with all great fathers, he had a humble ambition and internal drive to be a great
provider for his family and a mentor to his children and grandchildren. He was a tender hearted, loving and caring man. As a father, the moto he strived to instill into his children was, “You can do anything you want if you set your mind to it” while being a great provider and enabling them to do it.
Those who were fortunate to know Dick “Ducky” knew he enjoyed kicking back, laughing and shooting the breeze with his friends. While he could, Dick was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed the tranquility and challenges of the outdoors. He was a member of the Old Town Sportsman’s Club for many years of his life. His entire life he wanted a Harley Davidson and had a love for dogs. Dick was preceded in death by one of his best friends, a Golden Retriever named Harley Davidson Leigey.
