Wilmer Jack Woodring, Sr., 93, of Port Matilda, PA, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Centre Care Nursing Facility in Bellefonte, PA.
He was born on July 6, 1929, in Port Matilda, a son of the late Paul Gilbert and Elsie (Cowher) Woodring and preceded in death by his wife Erma Janet (Stull) Woodring of 56 years. He is survived by his 7 children, Judy Rudy, W. Jack Woodring (Jeannie), Scott Woodring (Virginia), Paula Sweetser (Sam), Bryan Woodring, Todd Woodring (Heidi), Robert Woodring, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition, he is survived by his sister Shirley Hanscom and preceded in death by his first wife Julia (Lehman) Woodring and 4 brothers and 4 sisters: Gerald (Jerry) Woodring, Jennie Coccia, Ardis Hagen, Evelyn (Sis) Bracken, Dorothy Woodring, Stanley (John) Woodring, Gilbert Woodring, Paul Woodring Jr.
Korean veteran and employee of the McFreely Brick Company, Tyrone Police Department, Yellow Freight Lines, and Confer Transportation. Wilmer J, was a member of the Schenley/Freeport Legion, Post 775, for 68 years, a long-standing member of the Altoona Masonic Hall, Mountain Lodge #281, and the Western and Central PA Teamster’s Union. He also volunteered as a baseball coach for Port Matilda Pee-Wee, Minor, and Little Leagues, and owned the State house Restaurant in Port Matilda.
The family will have a private service at a later date. The Woodring family would like to thank the staff of Centre Care for their compassionate care during his passing and thank you for your prayers and condolences during this time.
